The Camden Point Landmarks Society was formed out of a sincere desire to help preserve our community’s local and State history. Our community is rich with history and fascinating stories of many different characters, and it’s our hope to be able to share some of it with anyone interested. If you would like to write an article, submit a photo or story, or learn how you can be involved in a preservation activity, please leave a comment!
Also as a note, lately we’ve been more focused on sharing resources and hopefully encouraging productive thought in relation how the un-Civil War period impacts our local communities today. As this has been an area that has fallen under considerable attack in recent years (with leftist/progressive elements pursuing the removal of veterans monuments and the cleansing of various assorted imagery from public view in Missouri and abroad), we feel that part of our mission is to help preserve local and state history in this important area as well – especially as few sites are talking much about it. There is much to learn from history in the tragedies and triumphs of people not much different than we are today. Sure, we may have more technology at our disposal, but humanity still loves, laughs and unfortunately continues to seek out darkness. The stories of our ancestors can help provide wisdom and understanding (as well as potentially avoiding terrible mistakes) as we work to help leave behind a lasting legacy for our children.
